Your insurance company will help you throughout the restoration process. Firefighters and police will also help you understand the fire damage restoration process.
Figure out your lodging
If there has been enough damage, you will need to find a place to stay. Call family and friends to see if you can stay at their home. If don’t have a loved one’s place to stay at, your insurance or restoration company will assist you with lodging accommodations.
Be cautious around when re-entering your home
Don’t enter your home until you get the okay from the emergency officials. Be careful when you enter your home. There may be broken glass and other hazards around.
Get your valuables out of your home
- Jewelry
- Checkbooks
- Credit cards
- Safes
- Guns
Depending on the fire, your clothing might be compromised. You may have to get your clothes cleaned or buy new clothes.
Keep all of your receipts
Remember to keep your receipts from the hotel, meals, and other expenses while your home is being restored. Your insurance company will need them.
The next day
A restoration company will start to remove contents (like furniture) out of your home the next day to be inventoried and restored.
